Democracy Programs

Our goals here are simple and straightforward. They include promoting good governance and strengthening democracy. This can be achieved through helping governments promote the rule of law and also by engaging with civil societies. Through civic organisations, we aim to assist groups that encourage the participation of all peoples in democratic processes irrespective of their age, sex, whether they are refugees or not, and the youths as well. This and more are significant in strengthening democracy, especially in developing countries.

Observing elections is based on invitation by the election authorities of a country, and this must be in agreement with all the major political parties. This is important as it goes a long way in ensuring the whole process makes sense and is non partisan. We advise that invitations reach us well in advance (atleast 3 months before the election date). This is important as our observes need to go through and familiarise themselves with the election laws of the country, look into the voter registration process, sensitization and assess the degree of fairness in the campaigns.

Finally, our findings before, during and after the election day are disseminated through our website and other media channels.

Current Developments – We are currently looking at secure electronic methods (such as SMS technologies) for voting and monitoring elections that would be internationally accepted.
